Useful tips for a perfectly laid table
Even though we love going to restaurants, nothing beats a cozy dinner at home with friends and family. And after spending hours in the kitchen to prepare the perfect meal, it would be a shame if the table didn't look tip top. We help you set your table perfectly. That way, your dinner will taste even better.
For every occasion you can set the table chic. At Christmas, that little bit of extra attention is always paid to this. A Christmas brunch with delicious snacks or a Christmas breakfast. But also a birthday or an extensive dinner with friends becomes a bit cozier and more chic if the table is set in a special way.
Special tableware
The tableware is the eye-catcher of the table. The best thing is to stack the plates on top of each other. Start with a base plate (this is normally not used) and stack the plates from large to small.
The smallest plate is for the starter. The main course can be served separately on a heated plate. Place the stack of plates directly in front of the chair, 2 centimetres from the edge of the table. At the top left, place a small plate with a butter knife for the sandwich beforehand.
Cutlery according to etiquette
Forks go on the left side of the plate, knives and spoons on the right. The cutlery is set from the outside in, in the order of the menu. The outer cutlery is then for the first course. Make sure that the cutting side of the knives points inwards.
Above the plate, you place the dessert spoon and fork horizontally. The spoon points with the top to the left, while the fork points with the top to the right. This way, you can easily slide the cutlery for dessert to the correct side of the plate after the main course.
Multiple glasses
It may seem obvious, but it is sometimes forgotten: only prepare glasses that match the drinks you will be serving. Place the glasses to the right above the plate, in a diagonal line downwards. At the top the water glass, then the red wine glass and at the bottom the white wine glass.
Festive table linen and napkins
With beautiful napkins, a table runner or placemats you create a festive look on the table. Place the napkin on the left, next to the forks. You can also place the napkin on the plate and fold it in a special way. Like in a fan or roll it in a napkin ring.
Accessories on the table
A beautifully set table is finished with accessories. For example, think of a salt and pepper shakers , jug of oil and/or vinegar. Decorative objects such as candlesticks or candles are also indispensable and make it extra cozy. Not essential, but very nice: name tags on the table. Make a personal name tag for everyone that fits the style of the rest of the table.
